Artist Information
Hanabie
Hanabie, stylized as HANABIE, emerges as a Japanese metalcore ensemble hailing from Tokyo, originating in 2015. Comprising vocalist Yukina, guitarist Matsuri, bassist Hettsu, and drummer Chika, the band distinguishes itself by fusing robust, heavy melodies with the contrasting aesthetics of Harajuku, defining their genre as "Harajuku-core." Their repertoire melds elements of metalcore, hardcore punk, and nu metal, embellished with hints of hip hop and electronica.
United by their mutual admiration for Maximum the Hormone, the quartet, initially convening as part of their high school's light music club, evolved from covering tracks to composing original material, autonomously producing their debut single in 2016. Following an independent phase marked by the release of an album and an EP, they inked a deal with Epic Records Japan, a Sony Music Japan subsidiary, in 2023. Their sophomore album, "Reborn Superstar!," debuted in 2023, securing the 24th spot on Billboard Japan's weekly album charts, thereby catapulting them to international prominence and earning them slots at various global music festivals.
The band's moniker, Hanabie, meaning "chilly spring weather" in Japanese, pays homage to the birth seasons of its founding members, all born during winter or spring. The inclusion of "。" in their name symbolizes progress and is borrowed from another band they idolized during their middle school years. Hanabie's compositions have been featured in the DMM TV drama "Kenshiro ni Yoroku" and the Japanese variety show "Kannai Devil."
